Day 1: Athens
No trip to Greece would be complete without a round trip flight in and out of Athens. Plan a day or two on the front end before escaping to the cooler islands for the rest of the trip. Plan for HOT weather in the city, and wear cute but practical shoes for walking. A special highlight on this stop was Kuzina rooftop restaurant in Athens. Go for the cocktails, the risotto, but stay to watch the sun set just behind the Parthenon. This ended up being one of the best meals out of the entire trip and also the cheers behind our very own O! Hamos! T!🥂
Day 2: Mykonos Old Town
Your first stop fresh off the ferry from Athens is Mykonos. Walk the cobblestone streets of Old Town, enjoy cute shops, lively restaurants, and splashing waves. Visit the famous Mykonos windmills. Highlights of Old Mykonos include the small bars and pubs right on the water. Restaurant by day, party by night, here you can find flowing drinks any hour of the day. For a guaranteed good time check out Negrita Cafe, Scandinavia Bar, Astra Bar, Nice n Easy. These shops and pubs inspired our best selling Evil Eye Tank.
Day 3: Mykonos Platis Giallos
If you’re spending a weekend in Mykonos make sure to visit or stay a night in Platis Gialos on the south shore of the island. Cute accommodations line the streets walking distance to the beach and beach clubs. This stretch farther away from the main town will make for the perfect and easy weekend escape. For a relaxing afternoon check out Branco Beach, Platis Gialos beach, and the surrounding infinity pools. From happy hour to early morning hours a visit to some of the world famous beach clubs is a must. Try out Scorpios for sunset and live performances, Cavo Paradiso for late night, or Alemagou on the farther side of the island for some of the most memorable scenic landscapes.
Day 4: Oia, Santorini
Now that you’ve partied yourself out, your next stop is the crescent shaped island of Santorini. This dormant volcanic island has a much steeper, mountainous terrain than the oceanside beaches of Mykonos. Accommodations in Oia will provide you perfect sweeping views of the wrap around island on one side, and the wide open Mediterranean on the other. The small cave-like dwellings is a famous architectural style of Santorini, using white stone carved into the cliffsides. The perfect little escape to recover from the Mykonos madness. Walk around the winding mountain top streets and check out Lotza for traditional Greek food, The Church of Agios Nikolaos for the famous blue dome, and Iota’s Handmade Bags for a one of a kind, custom Greek handbag.
Day 5: Ammoudi Bay
After you’ve rested upon your arrival to Santorini, it’s time for a little adventure! If you’re brave enough to make the *steep* descent down the winding staircase, Ammoudi Bay at the very tip of the island is worth the trek. The red rock cliffs looming around you are offset by the striking white architecture and the Mediterranean blue waves reflecting from below. Spend the afternoon snorkeling the crystal clear water, eating and drinking at the ocean front restaurants, or sunbathing on the surround rocks. Cliff jumping can be found just around the corner for some more adrenaline inducing fun! In the bay, colorful boats bob in the water, the same boats that just caught the fresh octopus on your plate. This is an unforgettable afternoon in Santorini.
Day 6: Lauda, Santorini
We’re still dreaming about the perfect send off meal from the last night in Santorini. Lauda is an immersive dining experience carved into the mountainsides of Oia. Founded in 1971, the Michelin Star restaurant takes you through the history and story behind each unique bite. As good as the food was, the view of a young couple enjoying the sunset may have stolen the show. We've featured them on our Kairos T; read a little more about the scene here. Once the sun is gone the telescope in the center of Lauda’s outdoor dining room was a crowd favorite to see the stars blink away across the night sky.
Day 7: O! Hamos!
In my opinion we’ve saved the best stop for last… Milos is the largest island on our journey so far, but quickly becoming a top destination for international travelers looking for more a more wild, authentic Greek experience. You’ll ferry into the port town of Ademas. This is a great pace for accommodations to stay central on the island and close to groceries, boat tours, ATV rentals and restaurants! Plaka would be another good location to stay central to the island, but is a little farther inland when you touch down in the port. The easy highlight here is O! Hamos!, a local tavern that is a must visit. The menu has been passed down through generations and the establishment is a cozy open air haven right next to the beach. O! Hamos! in Greek means a light form of chaos, loosely translating to being crazy and having fun. A perfect mantra for the trip.
Day 8: Milos Roadtrip
There are too many unique beaches to see around Milos and not enough time! To make the most of a sightseeing day, rent ATVs for a convenient way to zip around the island (did we mention how fun they are). For an active morning hit Sarkiniko beach first before the crowds can get there. Fondly called the moon beach, this place looks and feels out of this world as you walk around the grotto. Next, head over to Fyropotamos for an afternoon of good beaches, waves, and food. Medusa Cafe is a world renowned sea to table restaurant to try and squeeze in for lunch, and the inspiration behind our Medusa Tank! The surrounding fishing villages are a rainbow of small houses and fishing boats floating in crystal clear water. If you have time after your afternoon in Fyropotamos, head across the island to finish the day at Tsigrado, a smaller more removed beach that’s a local favorite. Hidden within the cliffsides, the beach requires a ladder dismount to reach it.
Day 9: Milos Boat Day
If you have an extra day to kill, a boat tour to see the island from the sea was a HUGE highlight of the trip. The port of Adamas has several different tour companies to choose from, all following similar routes around the island and to the neighboring islands of Kimolos and Polyaigos. Float past the fishing villages of Trypiti, the port of Apollonia, but the best part of the day - maybe even the trip - was the stop at Polyagios. A wild island without towns and people, the jagged white cliffs make the surrounding inlets of water look a piercing blue color, like jumping into liquid indigo.
Day 10: Plaka
A trip to the island wouldn’t be complete without seeing the sunset from Plaka. One of the highest points on the island with some of the best restaurants, Plaka is a dreamy walk through painted clouds at sunset. Be sure to pause and watch the sunset in front of the Plaka Church, or over drinks on the Mosaic rooftop, Utopia Cafe. For good food later in the evening, try Archontoula. If you are seated at the right time, dinner may be interrupted by a quick celebration that the whole restaurant takes part in.
